Blogging in ELT
Most of the time
as teachers, we tend to focus only on teaching and transmitted our knowledge in
our daily classes. Maybe, we do not think about leaving a legacy or share our
knowledge to our future generation. This technological era has given us that
opportunity by using the blogs or by blogging.
What is a blog? Why did they become so important in most of the Universities in USA and Europe? According to Cambridge Dictionary, blogging is the action to add new material or regularly updated a blog. While a blog is a virtual space, it is generally consider a page with personal purpose, where we add information in a chronological way.
There are different kind of blogs, we
have Personal Blogs, business blogs, professional blogs, media blogs,
freelance bloggers, affiliate blogs, among the most popular sites for blogging,
and we can find the following ones published on the Wbbeginners webpage:
When blogging began in
the late 90's, the first type of blogger appeared was the online
diary bloggers. Business Blogs. Business bloggers are those blogs uses for
their business. In our case as teachers, professional blogs could be so useful;
they can give us the opportunity to promote our services and our own material
by creating post and finding sponsor to add advertisements in order to get some
money from it. Why not? There is a possibility for those of you who would love
to be bloggers.
Once that we have decided to create a blog
and its purpose, we should ask ourselves about the number of blogs that we want
to create and if we have time to keep them updated. If we have many section or
groups of students, we should be honest about the timing thing.
According to Richard Byrne, the author of the article: Every Teacher
Should have a blog expressed this: “Teachers who have twenty-five or fewer
students might be able to have each student maintain his or her own blog and
keep track of all of them, but even twenty-five blogs is a lot to keep track
of. The solution that I recommend is to create a group blog for each class that
you teach. Create the blog using whichever platform you like then make each
student an author of the blog”. We can see here that is better to have one
block with different categories or a group for our students where they can edit
as well. In that way, it would be easier to manage it.
One aspect to consider is the word
curation, what does it mean in the technology field? It is just the management
of any kind of digital data, with software and other
digital technology. According to Whatls.com,
there are several different but often overlapping types of curation. Such as:
1) Data curation:
The management of data throughout its lifecycle; the one which is obsolete
could be erased or recycled.
2) Digital curation: The
management of any kind of digital data, with software and other digital
technology.
3) Content curation: The
oversight of a collection of Web content arranged around a particular theme or
subject area.
4) Social curation:
The collaborative oversight of collections of Web content organized around
types of content. Pinterest,
Here we can share and organized images in a collaborative way.
Well, I hope you have enjoy this article.
